Cancers of the head and neck, and related procedures, can include but are not limited to:
High-profile celebrities speaking out about HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer and throat cancer has heightened awareness about the disease. Dr. Miles treats patients with cancers of the mouth, tonsils, base of tongue, and throat, including those cancers with a connection to human papillomavirus, HPV.
Dr. Miles does not only treat cancer patients. He performs surgeries on benign tumors of the head and neck as well. He specializes in tumors requiring complex facial or jaw reconstruction.
Dr. Miles is a surgical oncologist, but he provides a balanced opinion on non-surgical cancer treatment plans, and in many cases, this is the optimal approach. If you are a candidate for non-surgical treatments, he will refer you to his highly competent medical and radiation oncology team. Dr. Miles may also recommend a clinical trial in some cases where traditional management may not offer the best outcomes.
Tumors of the head and neck, including those of the mouth and throat, require specialized management, both to optimize cure rates and to preserve quality of life. They are most often treated by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon or an Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon. Dr. Miles is dual board-certified in both, AND fellowship trained in oncology and microvascular surgery. Meet Doctor Miles for more information about his unique qualifications.
An Otolaryngology residency provides comprehensive training in all conditions of the ears, nose, and throat. Post residency, many ENTs specialize in areas like sleep, sinus, throat, or in Dr. Miles’ case, cancer. Dr. Miles completed a post-residency Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery Fellowship to become skilled in advanced cancer removal, as well as complex reconstruction techniques like free tissue transfer. The fellowship offered Dr. Miles additional focused experience in cancer specifically, far greater than residency alone.
